After handing over his duties to former President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday, Hollande should arrive in Berlin on the same day, in the afternoon, where he will participate in a working dinner with Angela Merkel, after which a press conference is scheduled.
François Hollande wants to re-open negotiations on the European Pact of Budgetary Discipline so that it can be supplemented with measures for economic growth.
The German chancellor opposes any new negotiations on the budget agreement and encouraging economic growth by increasing public spending.
On Thursday, Merkel assessed that it is very important for everyone to accept the idea that "coming out of the crisis will be a long process" during which the structural problems of some European countries such as "catastrophic indebtedness" and "insufficient competitiveness" should be tackled.
According to diplomatic announcements, Hollande will meet US President Barack Obama at the White House on May 18 ahead of the G8 summit in Camp David.
