Spain's King Juan Carlos appeared at an official ceremony wearing sunglasses to hide a large eye patch.
"He hit the doorknob on Tuesday," said a spokesman for the royal family, insisting that it was a minor incident that would not affect the monarch's official duties.
The Spanish media published photos of the king with a "plum" on his eye, reminding of the injuries that Juan Carlos suffered in 1981 when he went through the glass door while running towards the pool.
After the media published the photo of his "collision with the doorknob", Juan Carlos started wearing the tinted glasses he had during the ceremony of awarding the decoration for art at the Ministry of Culture.
Juan Carlos came to the Spanish throne in 1975, two days after the death of General Francisco Franco, who had named him as his successor a few years earlier.
The Spanish king enjoys great respect because he helped establish a democratic order in the country.
