Russian Twitter accounts were used to post messages of support for Britain's opposition Labor Party in an attempt to influence last year's British election, a new report shows.
Research by Swansea University and the "Sunday Times" showed that messages of support for Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn and his policies were sent by almost six and a half thousand automated accounts.
They also attacked Prime Minister Theresa May for refusing to take part in televised debates and criticized her for reducing the number of police officers after the Manchester bombing.
The research found that nine out of ten messages about Labor expressed support for that party, and nine out of ten about the Conservatives were critical, reports Hina.
"These new findings are deeply concerning," said Culture Minister Matt Hancock. "It is absolutely unacceptable for any country to interfere in democratic elections in another country."
The British government accuses Russia of meddling in elections around the world and planting fake news in the media, but has so far denied that it successfully interfered in British elections.
