Rosen Plevneliev is the new president of Bulgaria after winning the second round of the presidential elections held on Sunday.
Plevneliev, the candidate of the ruling party Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria, based on 98 percent of the processed election materials, won 52,5, and his opponent, Ivaylo Kalfin from the Bulgarian Socialist Party Ivaylo Kalfin 47,4 percent of the votes.
The new vice president of Bulgaria is Margarita Popova, who, in accordance with the Bulgarian electoral legislation, was elected in a package with Plevneliev, reports Reuters.
Forty-seven-year-old Plevneliev said that he accepted the obligation so that citizens would see the clear results of his work and promised to work transparently.
The current president of Bulgaria, Georgi Prvanov, did not participate in the presidential elections, because this is his second mandate and he did not have the right to run again.
Rosen Plevneliev will assume the office of President of Bulgaria on January 22, 2012.
