Greece will legalize the use and possession of "small amounts" of all types of drugs, Greek Justice Minister Miltiades Papainou announced.
"Greek law should be harmonized with European legislation and, from now on, whoever is found with a small amount (of drugs) intended for personal use will not be considered a criminal," Papainou said, a day after the council of ministers adopted the bill.
The Greek minister also said that Parliament will soon specify what is meant by a "small amount" of drugs.
"A drug user is a sick person, not a criminal," Papaianou said.
Under current Greek law, anyone who uses or possesses even a small amount of the drug risks up to five years in prison.
