The Russian military announced today that it had successfully tested the latest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The Ministry of Defense stated that during the launch from Plesetsk, in northwestern Russia, the performance of the "Sarmat" rocket was tested in the early phase of flight.
The "Sarmat" missiles are supposed to replace the Soviet-made "Vojevoda" missiles, the world's largest ICMB, which are known in the West under the name "Satan" (Satan).
Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this month that the Sarmat missile weighs 200 metric tons and has a higher flight height than the Satan, allowing it to fly over the North or South Pole and hit targets anywhere in the world.
He then added that the "Sarmat" carries a larger number of nuclear warheads, more powerful than those on the "Satan".
Putin also said that the "Sarmat" can carry a number of warheads capable of evading anti-missile defense.
