Italian police have arrested a British citizen on suspicion of taking several small cubes from a mosaic in Pompeii.
As the BBC reports, the police noticed him breaking tiles from the mosaic floor in the famous House of Anchors.
At that moment, he was in the company of his father and sister. The woman allegedly crossed the protective fence and approached the mosaic. The damage was estimated at 3.000 euros, Hina agency reports.
Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, destroying Pompeii and covering it with lava.
Today, it is a locality with preserved architecture from the time of ancient Rome, which is visited by many tourists.
Last year, police arrested French tourists who were stealing pieces of marble and ceramics in Pompeii.
