A court in London today ruled that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is guilty of breaching bail conditions in the UK.
Based on that conviction, Assange faces up to 12 months in prison, but he faces possible extradition to the US, which is seeking him for publishing tens of thousands of secret government documents through WikiLeaks, according to the AP.
Judge Michael Snow quickly handed down the verdict as Assange appeared in the courtroom, the gallery of which was filled with supporters of the WikiLeaks founder.
Assange pleaded not guilty in court to a charge of breaching his bail conditions in 2012. He then sought political asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, having been released on bail while facing possible extradition to Sweden on sexual assault charges.
The sexual assault charges have since been dropped, but the charge that he breached his bail conditions remains.
London police said earlier today that they arrested Assange at the Embassy of Ecuador, based on a US extradition warrant and for breaching bail conditions in the UK.
The US Department of Justice announced today that it has charged Assange with conspiring with former US military intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to break into a government computer with classified information.
Assange is accused of helping Manning crack a computer code that allowed her to break into the Pentagon's computer system.
