German Minister of Health Jens Špan proposes penalties for parents of school children who have not been vaccinated against measles, reports AP. Špan told the weekly "Bild am zontag" that parents who cannot prove that their children have been vaccinated against this highly contagious and potentially fatal disease should pay a fine of up to 2 euros.
He believes that children who have not been vaccinated against smallpox should be banned from kindergartens, in order to protect those who are too young or unable to receive the vaccine.
Since the beginning of the year, 203 cases of measles have been recorded in Germany, which is twice as many as in the same period last year, but less than in 2017.
