Erdogan: It is unacceptable that they defend our nuclear weapons

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that it is unacceptable for states that have nuclear weapons to forbid Turkey from acquiring them itself.

Erdogan, however, did not say whether Turkey really has this in mind, notes Reuters.

"Some countries have missiles with nuclear warheads, not one or two. But they tell us we can't have them. I can't accept that," Erdogan said, addressing members of his Justice and Development Party in the Turkish city of Sivas.

The Turkish president emphasized that there is no developed country in the world that does not have nuclear weapons, reports Tanjug.

Turkey signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1980, and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 1996.
