The Romanian Parliament voted no confidence in the government of Social Democratic Prime Minister Vijorica Dančila, opening the way for negotiations on a new government.
"The proposal was adopted. Parliament withdrew its confidence in the government," the announcement states, adding that 238 out of 465 deputies voted for no confidence in the government.
Dancila has been leading Romania's minority government since August, when the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats left the coalition with its Social Democrats.
The vote of no confidence in the government was held a month before the presidential elections in Romania.
