The frequently used name Holland will no longer be in use, and the government there wants to improve the global image of the country by having one official name - Holland (Netherlands).
Thus, in the future, only the name Netherlands (Netherlands), otherwise the proper name of this country, will be used, reports N1.
South and North Holland are only two of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands.
The national rebranding, signed by business leaders, the tourism board and central government, will be implemented later this year.
As part of the new strategy, the Netherlands will be the official name of the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam next May, and then during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as well as other major sporting and other ceremonies.
"The new approach to the name of the country should strengthen exports, tourism, sports, spread culture, norms and values, and that is why the official name of our country - the Netherlands - will be used in every place and on every occasion," said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
