At least 170 people were injured in a clash between Catalan separatists and the police near the airport in Barcelona, the Catalan authorities announced today.
The riots erupted during demonstrations that began after the sentencing of nine Catalan officials to prison terms of nine to 13 years for their roles in the 2017 Catalan secession attempt.
Three people were arrested, and 40 police officers were among the injured.
Thousands of people took to the streets yesterday and then started to block the airport at the call of the "Democratic Tsunami" platform.
After 110 flights were canceled yesterday, the airport management announced that the protests will not affect today's flight schedule.
The Spanish government has sent police reinforcements in recent days and warned it will not shy away from extraordinary measures to ensure security, including suspending the area's autonomy, as it did in October 2017 after a secession attempt.
