The death of the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, represents a turning point in the joint fight against terrorism, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
Erdogan announced on Twitter that Turkey has paid a high price in the fight against terrorism, including that against Kurdish fighters from the People's Protection Units in Syria.
"I am convinced that the determined fight against terrorism will bring peace to all humanity," Erdogan said.
He added that Turkey will continue to support efforts in the fight against terrorism, reports Reuters.
US President Donald Trump announced today that al-Baghdadi is dead.
Trump added that 15 minutes after the death of al-Baghdadi, a DNA test was performed that confirmed his identity.
According to Trump, Al-Baghdadi was monitored for several weeks, and the operation was carried out by the United States.
