The Russian government has expelled a Bulgarian diplomat after Sofia denied a visa to the Russian defense attache, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said.
The Bulgarian ambassador in Moscow, Atanas Krastin, was informed that the diplomat must leave Russia within the next 24 hours according to diplomatic protocol, according to the ministry's statement.
It is added that Moscow stated the "principle of reciprocity".
In October, Bulgaria said it had denied a visa to a defense attaché at the Russian embassy in Sofia, a day after another Russian diplomat was expelled for alleged spying.
