In a fire on the only Russian aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" today, 10 people were injured, seven of whom are still in intensive care, Russian agencies reported, citing unnamed officials.
Officials of the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet said earlier today that two people were injured in a fire on board the "Admiral Kuznetsov" before it was contained.
The department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in Murmansk, in the north of the country, where the ship has been docked since April 2018 for repairs, declined to release the number of injuries in a telephone conversation with The Associated Press.
The fire broke out this morning during welding as part of the overhaul of the aircraft carrier.
At the time of the fire, there were crew members and civilian experts on board, but they were evacuated.
An assessment of the damage to the ship will be done later.
The aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" was used in the Mediterranean Sea in combat operations against targets in Syria.
The fire is the second major incident on the ship "Admiral Kuznetsov" since it was docked for overhaul in April 2018.
In October last year, a crane fell on the deck and injured four people.
