Ukrainian Naftogas expects to transport 75 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to Europe this year.
That amount of gas is planned due to the expected delay in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, said Chief Executive Officer of Naftogas Andrij Koboljev, reports Tanjug.
The Ukrainian government is actively discussing the continuation of gas purchases from Russia, Kobolev told reporters in Kyiv, adding that the transit fee for the Russian producer Gazprom was hardly changed in the new agreement.
Gazprom and Naftogas signed a final five-year agreement guaranteeing that the transit of Russian gas to Europe passes through Ukraine.
The agreement was signed only 24 hours before the expiration of the previous agreement on the transit of Russian gas, after five days of painstaking negotiations between the two sides and after a meeting between Ukrainian and Russian presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
"After five days of continuous bilateral talks in Vienna, the final decision has been made and the final agreement has been reached," announced Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller.
Zelenskiy expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached, adding that the agreement with Russia could be extended for an additional ten years.
