In a fire that broke out on an agricultural property near Moscow, eight people were killed and one was injured, according to the Russian emergency service.
All the victims are migrants from Tajikistan working on the farm. The fire broke out in one of the houses where migrants live, and the cause is still unknown.
The number of fires with casualties increased in Russia during the New Year and Christmas holidays.
The emergency services often attribute these fires to the custom of setting off firecrackers and organizing fireworks at that time of year when citizens consume more alcohol.
