Russian President Vladimir Putin says he hopes to reach an agreement with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky to improve relations between the two countries.
Vladimir Putin also assessed that there have been changes in the attitudes of his Ukrainian colleague Zelensky.
"There is always hope," Putin said in an interview with Tas.
According to him, after returning from Paris, where the Normandy Four summit on the Ukrainian crisis was held, Zelensky began talking about the need to amend the Minsk agreement.
"It raises questions," Putin said.
At the same time, Putin reminds that Russia and Ukraine managed to agree on the exchange of prisoners, as well as the transit of gas through Ukraine.
Putin also said that Russian-Ukrainian cooperation disturbs many countries and that they would do anything to separate them, but he did not specify which countries he meant.
Zelensky, who became president in spring 2019 elections, said his main goal was to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine and expressed his readiness to implement the Minsk agreement.
Tas reminds that the first telephone conversation between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian president, reports Tanjug.
Last fall, the first exchange of prisoners took place, and at the end of last year, "Gazprom" and "Naftogas" agreed to extend the agreement on gas transit to Europe through Ukraine.
