Vladimir Putin will be able to run for president of Russia again after the end of his current mandate in 2024, according to the amendments to the Constitution adopted by the State Duma.
In the third, last round of voting, the deputies of the lower house of the Russian parliament adopted the constitutional amendments with 383 votes in favor and 43 abstentions, while no one spoke against.
The law expands the powers of the Russian Parliament and the Constitutional Court, prohibits officials from having permanent citizenship and residence permits, and ensures the primacy of the Constitution in the Russian legal system.
The law will be forwarded to the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, which will consider the document later today.
Valentina Tereshkova, an envoy of the ruling United Russia and the first woman in space, submitted a proposal for a constitutional amendment that would allow Putin to run again in the presidential elections.
