Lawyer Keir Starmer (Keir) was elected as the new president of the Labor Party in Great Britain, succeeding Jeremy Corbyn, it was announced today in London.
"Congratulations to Kir Starmer, the new Labor leader," the party said on Twitter.
Almost 600.000 members of the Labor Party, the main opposition party in Great Britain, were invited to elect a successor to Corbyn, who was defeated by Conservative Boris Johnson in December's general election, by mail and email.
Starmer (57), who was considered the favorite in the internal party elections, is a Labor MP and a former lawyer specializing in human rights, who was also a prosecutor.
He had two opponents: Rebecca Long-Bailey (40) and Lisa Nandy (40).
