German authorities have announced that they have arrested four people believed to be part of the Islamic State extremist group, for planning attacks on US military facilities in Germany.
The prosecution stated that early this morning the police arrested the suspects, citizens of Tajikistan, at several locations in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Their leader is believed to be 30-year-old Tajik Ravsan B., who has been in prison since March 2019.
All suspects will be charged with belonging to a terrorist organization.
Prosecutors said the four joined the Islamic State in January 2019 and were instructed to form a cell in Germany.
According to the prosecution, they originally planned to carry out the attack in Tajikistan, but then decided on Germany, where they would target US military air bases and a person they considered a critic of Islam.
The group acquired weapons and ammunition for carrying out the attack, while Ravsan B. ordered materials for making an explosive device, prosecutors said.
In order to get the money needed for the attacks, Ravsan B. allegedly agreed to kill someone in Albania for $40.000, but that deal fell through.
