Countries across Europe have begun easing restrictions on travel and borders, and are preparing for the return of domestic and foreign guests, writes Gardija, as quoted by Index.hr.
Travel between countries could take place between those countries that have a similar epidemiological situation. Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia have already created a "travel bubble" and opened their borders. The Guardian has compiled a list and current state of travel conditions for European countries.
Albanija
Borders should open for foreign tourists on June 1. And then some hotels should open, as well as beaches. Some shops and restaurants have already opened, and public transport should gradually return to normal over the next month.
Austrija
First, they will open the borders for people coming from neighboring countries with a similar epidemiological situation – Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Rail traffic between Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic is still not functioning. Until May 31, the airports in Vienna, Innsbruck and Salzburg will be open, but with limited traffic. Restaurants and bars are open, and hotels will start operating from June. When entering the country, it is necessary to show a health certificate confirming that the person does not have the coronavirus. If the person entering the country does not have this certificate, he must self-isolate for 14 days. Testing can be done at the airport in Vienna at a price of 190 euros.
Belgija
Belgium intends to open its doors to foreign tourists by June 15, with a final decision expected to be made at the end of May. Public transport is operating, and passengers must wear masks. Shops have started working, museums will open on May 18, and from June 8, cafes, restaurants, some tourist attractions, and smaller outdoor events will start working. Currently, anyone entering the country must go into self-isolation for 14 days.
Bulgaria
From June 1, it is expected that the borders with Greece and Serbia will be opened, and after that with Austria and Germany. Some hotels and swimming pools are open, and individual sports are allowed. Some markets and open-air bars are also open, and restaurants will open from June 1. Trips to the mountains and national parks are allowed.
Croatia
Some borders are open with restriction. Foreigners who own real estate, ships or close family members, and tourists with reservations can enter the country. Parks, beaches, shops, museums, hotels, restaurants and bars are open, as well as some public transport. Some of the domestic and international airlines also operate.
Cyprus
In the period from June 9 to July 13, the gradual opening of air and sea ports is planned. It is not known when the borders will be opened for tourists. In the period from May 21 to June 9, cafes and restaurants are gradually opening. Some hotels are open, and museums will start operating from June 1. Parks, squares and marinas will be open from June 21.
Češka
Borders with Austria and Germany are expected to open from June 15. Shops, outdoor restaurants, pubs, museums and other cultural institutions are open. Gatherings of up to 100 people are also allowed. The hotel and campsites will open from May 25, when taxis will start driving again.
Danish company
On June 1, the Danish government will make a decision on travel and the opening of borders. The airports in Copenhagen and Billund are open. Shops, parks and part of the hotel are open, and public transport is also operating. Restaurants and bars are open from May 18. Cinemas and theaters will open after June 8.
Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia
Currently, travel is only possible between these three countries.
Finnish
It is still not known when the borders will be opened for tourists. Bars and cultural institutions open from June 1, and shops and restaurants have already started working earlier. But many hotels and ski resorts remain closed.
Francuska
From June 15, the borders with Switzerland and Germany will be opened. Currently, everyone entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days. Public transport has started working, and passengers who use it must wear masks. Some shops are open, and restaurants and bars will open from June 1 at the earliest. Until then, most museums, beaches and parks will also remain closed.
Njemacka
The borders with Luxembourg have been opened, and from June 15 the borders with Switzerland, France and Austria are planned to be opened. Currently, everyone entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days, with the exception of those coming from the European Union, the Schengen zone and Great Britain. Shops, restaurants and some hotels are open. Big events like festivals will be possible after August.
Grčka
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the start of the tourist season on June 15, but many international flights will not depart before July 1. Currently, everyone entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days, but this will most likely be lifted from June 15, when testing will be introduced upon arrival. Currently, 50 percent of domestic flights and sea traffic are operating, and travel to the islands is allowed. Wearing masks is mandatory in public transport and shops. Bars and restaurants are open, and shopping centers will open in June. Cinemas, amusement parks, playgrounds and sports fields. Hotels will start opening from June 1. This summer, most likely, there will be no major gatherings like festivals.
Hungary
Hungary has opened its borders with Romania, and from June 15 it will also open its borders with Austria, and perhaps with Slovenia. It is mandatory to wear masks in shops as well as in public transport. Parks, bars and restaurants are also open.
Iceland
By June 15, measures related to international arrivals are expected to be eased. When entering the country, testing or 14-day self-isolation will be mandatory. Foreigners will also need to download a tracking app. Most hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, gyms and shops are open. Gatherings of up to 200 people are also allowed.
Italy
Borders for foreign tourists will open on June 3. Bars, restaurants and museums are open. Some hotels will also open in June. Rail traffic within the country has also been partly started. Sicily has announced that it will subsidize travel for domestic and foreign tourists once arrival is safe
Luksemburg
The border with Germany is open. And wearing masks in public transport and supermarkets is mandatory.
Malta
It is still not known when the borders will be opened for tourists. The airport is expected to open at the end of May. Currently, everyone entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days. Wearing masks in public transport and supermarkets is mandatory. Some restaurants and shops are open, and hotels will open in early June.
Netherlands
Borders are open for tourists from the Schengen zone, and after June 15 for others. Shops and some hotels are open. Open-air restaurants and bars, theaters, museums and cinemas will start operating from June 1. After September 1, concerts and festivals with more than 100 people will be allowed.
Norveška
Borders with other Nordic countries are expected to open from June 15. Some hotels and shops are open.
Poljska
The opening of borders for tourists is expected from June 13. Restrictions have been eased since May 4, and masks are still mandatory in public spaces.
Portugal
Tourism Minister Augusto Santos Silva said on May 22 that tourists are welcome. The easing of measures varies from region to region. And public transport in the country operates in a limited capacity. Beaches, campsites and, to a reduced extent, restaurants and bars are open.
Rumunija
The border with Hungary is open. Hotels, some shops, museums and restaurants have started working.
Slovakia
It is still not known when the borders will be opened for tourists. Currently, everyone who comes to the country must self-isolate for 14 days and announce their arrival 72 hours in advance. Public transport works. And shops, markets, bars, restaurants, museums and galleries are open.
Slovenija
The border with Hungary is expected to open by June 1. Everyone who comes from countries outside the EU must self-isolate for seven days. Shops, smaller hotels, bars and outdoor restaurants are open.
Spain
From July, the borders will gradually open for international tourists, and travel within the country will be allowed from June 22. Currently, everyone entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days.
Sweden
Borders are open for those coming from EU countries and Great Britain, and for others they are closed until June 15.
Switzerland
From June 15, the borders with Germany, France and Austria will be opened. Hotels, shops and outdoor restaurants are open.
