Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that on June 24, a military parade will be organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War and added that the peak of the coronavirus epidemic has passed.
"I ordered the start of preparations for a military parade in Moscow and other cities... It will be on June 24," Putin said in a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The President of Russia said that the situation with the coronavirus has stabilized throughout the country, regions and in the armed forces.
"According to experts, it can be considered that the peak of the epidemic in our country has passed," added Putin.
The date, June 24, is symbolic for Russia because it was then that the first big military parade was held after the victory over the Nazis in 1945. The parade is usually held on May 9, which is the date associated with the German capitulation.
The parade was postponed this year due to the coronavirus epidemic. On May 9, Putin modestly marked the day with a short speech in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Hero near the Kremlin and another speech to soldiers inside the Kremlin.
Today, Putin ordered the Minister of Defense to implement sanitary measures against the spread of Kovid-19 during the preparations for the military review, stating that no parade participant should be exposed to the risk of the virus.
In Russia, 3.807 people have officially died from the coronavirus, while more than 362.000 have been infected.
