The city authorities of Berlin and Frankfurt have decided to introduce curfews and measures to limit social contact due to a worrying increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus.
In Berlin, most shops, as well as restaurants and bars, will have to be closed from 23.00pm to 6.00am, with the measure taking effect on Saturday and lasting at least until October 31. Exceptions will be pharmacies and gas stations. Those pumps will not be allowed to sell alcohol at night. "After three glasses of wine, physical distancing is less respected," said a local Berlin official.
In the capital of Germany, from 23.00:6.00 p.m. to 50:XNUMX a.m., only outdoor gatherings of up to five people will be possible, and up to XNUMX people during the day.
Those restrictions are stricter indoors where there can be up to ten people during the day, instead of 25 as it was until now. The measure applies especially to evening gatherings in homes or indoor celebrations.
Frankfurt city authorities have also announced that they are introducing a curfew from 22.00pm to 6.00am starting Friday. Consumption of alcohol in public places will be prohibited. It will be mandatory to wear a mask in markets and high traffic streets.
Germany did not introduce a general quarantine of the population like its neighboring countries, and in recent days it has recorded an increase in the number of patients, which is between 2.000 and 2.500 per day.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in that country, 9.546 people have died.
