Carmen Franco, daughter of Francisco Franco, died

Carmen Franco, the daughter of the Spanish dictator Francis Franco, died in Madrid at the age of 92, her family announced today.

Earlier this year, it was announced that she was suffering from cancer and that the disease was in the terminal stage.

Carmen Franco was until her death the honorary president of the national "Francisco Franco" Foundation, an institution that glorifies the work of the Spanish dictator. She was the daughter of a Spanish dictator and had seven children and numerous grandchildren.

In 2007, the Spanish Parliament adopted a historic law condemning Francisco Franco's 1936 coup and the dictatorship he ruled for nearly four decades, from 1939, after the end of the civil war, to 1975.

About 500.000 people died during the Spanish Civil War, and several tens of thousands of people were executed during Franco's reign.
