Young people who protested last night in the Netherlands due to the introduction of a curfew set fire to the coronavirus testing center in the village of Urk and threw firecrackers at the police.
Police said today that they have fined more than 3.600 people across the country for violating the curfew, introduced to curb the pandemic, and that they have arrested 25 people either for the same reason or for violence.
A curfew from 21.00:4.30 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. was in force across the Netherlands for the first time tonight.
Footage from the coastal village of Urk, 80 kilometers northeast of Amsterdam, shows youths breaking into a coronavirus testing center before setting it on fire.
Police and local authorities today strongly condemned the violence, saying protesters "threw firecrackers and oysters, destroyed police vehicles and set a test facility on fire."
"This is not only unacceptable, but also a slap in the face, especially for the local health authorities who are doing everything they can to help the people of Urk at the testing center," the authorities said.
Police in Amsterdam are preparing for today's protest in the square where demonstrators and police clashed a week ago.
