WHO: We are closely monitoring the new strain discovered in France

World Health Organization (WHO) expert Abdi Mahamud said today that since November, the WHO has been carefully monitoring the new strain of coronavirus B.1.640.2, which was registered by scientists in France.

"There are three types of strains - those that we monitor, those that cause interest and those that cause concern," said Mahamud at a briefing in Geneva, reports Nova.rs.

He added that the WHO has been monitoring the B.1.640.2 strain since November, as well as two of its subvariants.

According to Mahamud, the WHO will continue to monitor the strain, including its possible spread to other European countries.

Previously, the media announced that experts from the University Hospital in Marseille discovered a new strain of coronavirus and temporarily named it B.1.640.2. According to the first data, 12 people have been infected with this strain in the south of France.
