Russian authorities have blocked two independent media outlets, Dozhd television and Echo of Moscow radio station, in an effort to tighten control over information amid the invasion of Ukraine.
"The Prosecutor's Office has requested to block access to the online TV channel Dožd and radio station Echo of Moscow," the independent television station said on Twitter.
She added that the two media were accused of broadcasting "calls to extremist and violent acts" and of "knowingly publishing false information about the activities of Russian military personnel."
Dozhd, Echo of Moscow and the newspaper Novaya Gazeta stood out as media that do not adhere to the Kremlin's rhetoric in reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, unlike the vast majority of Russian media.
