Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew called for an immediate stop to the invasion and war in Ukraine, and to give a new opportunity to dialogue, Orthodox Times reports.
"We are watching the tragedy of the Ukrainian people and we admire their fierce resistance to the shameless invader. We are also pleased to see the courageous reaction of the citizens of Russia to the bloodshed. We call for an immediate ceasefire on all fronts of the war," said Bartholomew yesterday at the Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul. which was also attended by the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Bartholomew said that violence and war not only do not resolve differences, but cause pain and death and create more complex problems.
"Invasion and war must be stopped immediately, now, and a new opportunity must be given to dialogue as a means of peace. War is a violation of international law, which is the law of peace," Bartholomew said.
