The Russian space agency has rejected Western media reports suggesting that Russian cosmonauts who joined the International Space Station (ISS) chose to wear yellow suits with blue trim in support of Ukraine.
"Sometimes yellow is just yellow," the press service of Roscosmos announced on its Telegram channel.
"The flight suits of the new crew are made in the colors of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University emblem, completed by all three cosmonauts... To see the Ukrainian flag everywhere and in everything is crazy".
Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin stated on his personal Telegram channel that Russian cosmonauts have no sympathy for Ukrainian nationalists.
At a press conference on Friday, cosmonaut and mission commander Oleg Artemyev, when asked about the suits, said that each crew chooses a color that looks different.
"It was our turn to choose the color. It's true that we accumulated a lot of yellow fabric, so we had to use it up. That's why we had to wear yellow flight suits," he said.
Russia invaded Ukraine, which has a blue and yellow flag, on February 24th.
In the fighting that followed, thousands of people died, parts of cities were devastated and millions of Ukrainians left their homes, according to the United Nations.
