Zelenski called on European leaders to end all forms of trade with Russia, told Germany "you have strength"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on European leaders to stop all trade with Russia following the Kremlin's warning that new sanctions could "hit everyone", reports AFP.

"Please do not sponsor the war weapons of this country, Russia. There are no euros for the occupiers. Close all your doors to them. Do not export your goods to them. Deny energy resources. Push Russia to leave Ukraine," Zelensky said in a new video address.

Addressing Germany directly, he said "you have strength. Europe has strength".

Germany opposes a complete freeze on Russian energy imports, despite calls by several EU countries, including the Baltic states, for an embargo on Russian oil and gas imports.

Germany remains of the position that it cannot do without importing oil from Russia, a government spokesman said today.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned of a European oil embargo.

"Such an embargo would have very serious consequences for the world energy market. It will have a very serious negative impact on the energy balance in Europe," Peskov told reporters.

It is the twenty-sixth day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
