Peskov on US claims that Putin is misinformed: They simply don't understand the way we work

The Kremlin today expressed regret and concern over reports by US officials that advisers were misinforming Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Russian military's performance in Ukraine.

Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that "neither the State Department nor the Pentagon has real information about what is happening in the Kremlin."

"They simply do not understand what is happening in the Kremlin, they do not understand President Putin, they do not understand the mechanism of decision-making, they do not understand the way we work. This is not only regrettable, but also causes concern, because a complete misunderstanding leads to wrong decisions, tragic decisions that could have very bad consequences," said Peskov.

The White House previously said that US intelligence officials had determined that advisers were misinforming Putin about the poor performance of Russian forces in Ukraine.

The US believes that Putin is not getting adequate information about the fact that "the Russian economy is crippled by (Western) economic sanctions, because his advisers are too afraid to tell him the truth," the White House stated.
