Due to the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Dutch government plans to ban the import of energy products from Russia until the end of the year.
This would be partially achieved by reducing demand and increasing the capacity to import liquefied petroleum gas, according to the Government's report, SEEbiz reports.
The government has earmarked 623 million euros to help fill the country's gas storage before next winter.
It would pay companies a premium for storage, because gas prices are such that storage is not profitable, so it is uneconomical.
"Due to high gas prices and additional risks of losses, it is currently not attractive for companies to fill warehouses," said the Government.
The state energy company EBN has been tasked by the government to fill the Bergermeer gas storage, which provides about a third of the Dutch storage capacity, up to 70 percent before winter, if other companies do not respond to the government's incentives.
The Netherlands usually meets 15 percent of its gas needs from Russia
