Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again voiced his opposition to Sweden and Finland joining NATO, saying Ankara will say "no" to their membership request.
During a conversation with a group of young people, Erdogan accused the two countries, especially Sweden, of being a "home for terrorists."
Erdogan blames Sweden, and to a lesser extent Finland, for providing support to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Turkey and the EU consider a terrorist organization, as well as an armed Kurdish group in Syria.
Turkey also accuses the two countries of harboring followers of Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, who Ankara claims was behind a failed military coup attempt in 2016.
The consent of Turkey for the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO is crucial, because the consent of all members of the alliance is necessary.
