Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whose country opposes the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO, today called on Stockholm to take "concrete steps" that would reduce Turkey's security concerns.
"We cannot in any way ignore the fact that Sweden is imposing sanctions on us. Turkey's legitimate expectations regarding (ending) support for terrorism and sanctions must be met," Erdogan said.
For days, Turkey has indicated that it opposes the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO, citing their alleged support for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and other groups that Ankara considers terrorist.
Ankara also demands that the two countries lift the ban on the export of some products from the defense sector to Turkey.
Erdogan did not mention Finland today, which confirms claims that he is much more angry with Sweden, where a large Kurdish community lives.
