Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he is ready to help solve the "food crisis", provided that Western sanctions against Moscow are lifted, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).
As the Kremlin announced, Putin expressed Russia's willingness to help on Thursday, May 26, in a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
Russia is "ready to significantly contribute to overcoming the food crisis through the export of grain and fertilizers, along with the lifting of politically motivated restrictions by the West," Putin said, according to the statement.
According to the Kremlin statement, the invitation to the conversation was sent by Draghi.
Sanctions were imposed on Russia after it began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
