British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face a vote of confidence today by MPs of the ruling Conservative Party, Chairman of the 1922 Committee Graham Brady told MPs, reports Reuters.
"The threshold of 15 percent of parliamentary party deputies requesting a vote of confidence in the leader of the Conservative Party has been exceeded," he wrote in a note to conservative deputies.
"In accordance with the rules, voting will take place between 18.00pm and 20.00pm today, Monday 6 June - details to be confirmed. Votes will be counted immediately afterwards. An announcement will be made in due course."
A confidence vote is taken if at least 54 Tory MPs request it.
If Johnson loses the vote in which 359 Conservative MPs participate, he will be removed as leader of that party and prime minister. If he "wins", he will be safe from another confidence vote for a year.
Johnson has been at the center of "ethics scandals" for months, mostly because of the parties held in government buildings while the covid-19 lockdown was in effect.
British Foreign Minister Liz Truss said she supports Johnson in the confidence vote that will be held among MPs from their Conservative Party, reports Reuters.
"The Prime Minister has my XNUMX% support in today's vote and I strongly encourage my colleagues to support him," Tras wrote on Twitter.
"He provided support in the recovery from COVID and supported Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. He apologized for the mistakes made. Now we must focus on economic growth," she said.
According to Reuters, Tras is considered a potential successor to Johnson.
