Lawyers across England and Wales who specialize in criminal litigation have walked out of trials today and gone on strike, due to a long-running dispute with the state over salaries, the BBC reports. transmitted by N1.
London lawyers announced that eight out of ten proceedings at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales in London were suspended due to the strike.
British Minister Dominic Raab said that the strike will "obstruct justice", as there are already 58.000 pending cases in the courts.
The lawyers rejected the proposal for a 15 percent wage increase, and announced further action over the next four weeks.
The Association of Chambers of Criminal Lawyers requested that the salary increase be at least 25 percent.
