The European Council approved a new package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EU Council announced. The EU introduces a ban on the import of Russian gold, and the ban also applies to gold jewelry.
The announcement states that, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Council adopted new measures aimed at tightening existing economic sanctions against Russia, strengthening their effectiveness, and perfecting their implementation.
The council points out that the new "maintenance and adjustment" package prohibits the purchase, import or transfer of gold, including jewellery, writes H1.
The statement emphasized that the measures do not prevent third countries and their citizens outside the EU from buying pharmaceutical or medical products from Russia.
According to the text of the announcement, the EU allows the provision of technical assistance to Russia for goods and technology used in civil aviation.
The Council of the EU adds that the exemption from the ban on transactions with certain Russian state-owned companies has been extended, if those transactions are related to agricultural products or the transportation of oil to third countries.
