Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he will decide later this year whether to run for another term, not unusual for the reticent Russian leader who likes to enter the race at the last minute.
Putin, with the support of up to 80 percent of citizens despite economic difficulties, said today that he has not yet decided whether he will fight for another six-year term in the presidential elections next March.
If Putin is the candidate, as expected, he should easily beat veterans from previous elections - Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, ultra-nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky and liberal Grigory Yavlinsky.
Arguably Russia's most popular opposition politician, Alexei Navalny, has announced his intention to run for office, but his participation in the election is barred by a criminal court conviction he claims was politically motivated.
In 2013, Navalny was convicted of embezzling 16 million rubles (about 236.000 euros).
