Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for 117 military officers, most of whom are active duty, as part of an investigation into last year's attempted military coup, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The report said the police launched operations in 45 provinces to nab 98 active-duty officers and 19 others who were previously discharged from the army. They are suspected of secretly maintaining contacts with members of the movement of Imam Fethullah Gulen, whom the authorities consider to be the organizer of the coup. The agency states that the suspects allegedly received instructions via mobile phones with prepaid service. Turkish authorities launched a major crackdown against Gulen's movement after the failed military coup in July 2016. Since then, more than 110.000 people have been fired from state services, and around 50.000 have been arrested. Gulen, who lives in America, denies that he was involved in the military coup.
