Members of the environmental group "Just Stop Oil" today sprayed orange paint on the facades of the buildings of the British Ministry of the Interior, the Intelligence Service, the Bank of England and the London headquarters of the American media group News Corp.

"Those buildings were chosen because they represent pillars that support the fossil fuel economy, government, security, finance and media," said the environmental group, which opposes oil and gas exploitation.

London police said they arrested eight people.

"The age of fossil fuels should be over, but nefarious fossil fuel interests continue to corrupt our politics, government and media as they have for decades," said an unnamed spokesman for the group.

The target of the paint attack was the London headquarters of News Corp, the American media group of Australian tycoon Rupert Murdoch. That group owns the British newspaper The Times and the Sun tabloid.

Members of the "Just Stop Oil" group have conducted several actions in Great Britain in recent weeks.

They threw a cake at the face of the wax figure of King Charles III in the Madame Tussauds museum, while in the National Gallery they threw tomato soup at the famous painting "Sunflowers" by the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh.
