The first humanitarian convoy of the United Nations (UN) has arrived in the liberated Ukrainian city of Kherson, dpa reports.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid stated that the convoy delivered food, drinking water, hygiene items, kitchen utensils, warm bedding and solar lamps to around 6.000 people.
The hospital in Kherson received medicines and other medical supplies for the treatment of about a thousand patients, reports Hina.
According to Ukrainian sources, 280 of the former 80 inhabitants remain in the city.
There is a shortage of drinking water, electricity and food in the city, while hospitals are running out of medicine.
More humanitarian convoys are expected to arrive in the next few days.
The withdrawal of Russian forces from Kherson is the beginning of the end of the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today while honoring the soldiers in the city in the south of the country that was recently liberated.
Zelensky walked the streets of Kherson, just a few hours after he warned in his nightly video address about landmines left in the city by the Russians before retreating, reports AP.
He presented medals to Ukrainian soldiers in the central square and posed for selfies with them, and the video shows him waving to residents who greet him from the windows and shout "Glory to Ukraine."
Zelensky has previously unexpectedly appeared in other frontline zones at key moments of the war to support the troops and congratulate them on their feats on the battlefield.
During yesterday's video address, Zelensky said that investigators have already documented more than 400 Russian war crimes and that the bodies of both civilians and soldiers have been found.
