Head of the IAEA: Intentional and targeted attacks on the power plant in Zaporozhye, the people who do it know where they are hitting

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, today assessed the attacks on the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye as "absolutely deliberate and targeted" and added that the situation is "serious".

"More than ten attacks" were aimed at the switchboard, Grossi said in an interview with French online television BFMTV.

Grossi did not attribute responsibility to Russian or Ukrainian forces, but added that it was implausible that anyone would consider the nuclear plant a legitimate military target.

"Whoever it is, this madness needs to be stopped. The people who are doing this know where they are hitting. It is absolutely deliberate and targeted," the IAEA chief said.

Today, Russia and Ukraine accused each other of airstrikes on the headquarters located in the south of Ukraine under the control of the Russian army.

"The plant is on the front line, there are military activities that are very difficult to identify," Grossi said, adding that there are two IAEA inspectors on site assessing the situation at the plant.

According to him, there was damage in sensitive places.

"The reactors were not affected, but the zone where there is both fresh and spent fuel," Grossi said.

Ukraine will investigate videos that appeared on Russian social networks, which Moscow claims show Ukrainian soldiers killing Russian soldiers who wanted to surrender, Ukrainian authorities said today.

Russia has reached an agreement with Iran to begin production of hundreds of unmanned armed aircraft on Russian soil, the Washington Post reported.
