Today, German parliamentarians adopted a resolution declaring the starvation of millions of Ukrainians during the time of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin as genocide.
The resolution says that the Holodomor, as it is known in Ukraine, is a "crime against humanity," Deutsche Welle reported.
"The political leadership of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin was responsible for them".
All three parties of Chancellor Olaf Soltz's ruling coalition, the Social Democrats, Greens and Free Democrats, as well as the main opposition Christian Democrats (CDU) and their allies the conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), voted for the resolution in the Bundestag.
Green MP Robin Wagener said in parliament that "the killings by starvation were also aimed at political repression of Ukrainian national identity, Ukrainian culture and language".
He added that the parallels with the present moment are obvious, which was also assessed by other speakers.
"The current Russian war of aggression against Ukraine is in line with that historical tradition," CDU lawmaker Volker Ulrich said.
