The websites of seven German airports went down today after being suspected of being the target of a cyber attack, according to the airport association ADV in Germany.
The alleged attack was carried out a day after a major IT failure at Lufthansa due to which thousands of passengers did not arrive at their desired destinations, reports Reuters.
The websites of the airports in Dusseldorf, Nuremberg and Dortmund were down, while the websites of the largest German airports in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin are working normally.
ADV CEO Ralf Bijzel said in a statement that the websites of seven airports, which he said were the targets of large-scale denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, were temporarily downed.
Denial of service (DDoS) attacks involve targeting a computer system by flooding it with messages or connection requests.
"According to the information we have so far, other systems have not been affected," Bijzel said.
