The White House has "new information" that shows Russia is actively working to get more weapons from North Korea, a spokesman said. The spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby, recalled that according to the information of the American intelligence services, North Korea had already recently delivered military aid to Russia.
The White House says it has new evidence that Russia is once again turning to North Korea for weapons for its war in Ukraine, this time seeking a deal that would see Pyongyang get much-needed food and other goods in exchange for arms.
"Under this proposed deal, Russia would receive more than a dozen types of weapons and ammunition from Pyongyang," Kirby said.
Kirby said that they found that Russia is trying to send a delegation to North Korea, as well as that Russia is offering that country food in exchange for weapons.
Experts believe the food situation in North Korea is at its worst yet, but the country continues to say it sees no signs of imminent starvation or mass death.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has promised that the country will take control of agriculture and introduce a number of other measures to increase grain production, North Korean media reported earlier this month.
