Local authorities issued an airstrike alert on Kiev after gunfire and explosions were heard in the capital.
Residents making their way to shelters said they saw drones in the air.
Kyiv's military administration announced that Ukrainian anti-aircraft forces shot down a drone over the capital. They say that the remains of the drone fell in the Solomianski district on the right bank of Kyiv, causing a fire in a non-residential building.
"The enemy drone was shot down," said the head of the presidential cabinet Andrij Jermak.
There is still no information on casualties and damage.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the fire broke out in a four-story building, spreading to 50 square meters. He added that so far no one has requested medical help, writes Reuters.
The air raid sirens came after Kiev experienced another wave of attacks overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.
On Thursday morning, Sergej Popko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, said that "our city has not experienced such an intensity of attacks since the beginning of this year."
Popko then said that it was the third day of the attempted attack on Kiev in May.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called today in The Hague for the formation of a special tribunal for the alleged crimes of Russian aggression, during an unexpected visit to the International Criminal Court.
"There should be responsibility for this crime of aggression... the beginning of evil," Zelensky said in a speech to diplomats and officials.
Speaking about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky appealed for "large-scale justice".
"Only the court can apply that," Zelenski emphasized.
He said at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin in March, that the Russian leader should be sentenced for his "criminal actions."
President of the court Pjotr Hofmanski and other officials welcomed Zelenski at the International Criminal Court. The flag of Ukraine is displayed on the court building.
Zelenski arrived last night on an unannounced visit to the Netherlands.

Russian authorities have accused the United States of America of being behind the alleged attack on the Kremlin, which they claim was aimed at killing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian authorities said they shot down 18 Russian drones overnight, a day after Moscow accused Kiev of launching a drone attack on the Kremlin.
"The attackers launched 24 Shahed 136/131 drones. The Air Force of Ukraine, in cooperation with other air defense units, shot down 18 drones," according to a statement from the Ukrainian authorities on Telegram this morning.

An unmanned aerial vehicle attack in the south of Russia caused a fire in an oil refinery, the Russian news agency TASS reported this morning.
The fire broke out in a tank at a refinery in Ilysk, Krasnodar region, after an "unidentified drone" attack, an emergency service official said, according to TASS.
The local governor stated on Telegram that the fire covered an area of 400 square meters and that it was extinguished.
Russia announced yesterday that it shot down two Ukrainian drones that were aimed at the Kremlin in Moscow, saying it was an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin, days before a major military parade on May 9.
The Ukrainian presidency said that Kiev "has nothing to do" with the drone attack on the Kremlin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Netherlands on an unannounced visit during which he will visit the International Criminal Court, the Dutch agency ANP reported, AFP reports.
Zelensky arrived at the Amsterdam-Shiphol airport on Tuesday evening from Helsinki, where he attended the summit of the Nordic countries.
He is scheduled to visit the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Wednesday, which in March issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes in Ukraine.
