Erdogan: Everyone should vote to show the strength of Turkish democracy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wished a "successful future" for the country and its democracy after voting in the Istanbul election.

"It is important that all voters vote without problems until 17.00 to show the strength of Turkish democracy," the leader added, not predicting his victory.

Today, Erdogan faces the most uncertain elections since coming to power, with a united opposition for the first time in 20 years in a country with an economic crisis.

Erdogan, 69, is determined to stay at the helm of his country of 85 million for another five years. He changed Turkey, but the country is now in an economic crisis.

64 million voters are going to the polls, including 3,4 million who are already voting abroad.

Polls predict close presidential elections, and if none of the candidates wins more than 50 percent of the vote, a second round will be organized on May 28.
